On November 13th, 2021 at 1720 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company along with the Sussex County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Aviation were alerted for a injured patient involved in a construction accident in the 35000 block of Old Orchard Avenue in the Ocean View Beach Club south of Ocean View. Both Millville ambulance crews and Paramedic Unit 105 (Beaver Dam Road Station) responded on the initial dispatch. A landing zone was established at Melson's Funeral Chapel at the corner of Parker House Road and Muddy Neck Road. Rescue 84, Engine 84-4, Command 84-8 and Utility 84-13 along with Millville Fire Police made the response. The landing zone was secured and DSP Trooper 2 met the ALS staffed ambulance at the landing zone. Medical personnel were able to determine that the best destination for the patient was Christiana Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma Center) in northern Delaware. This incident is an example of how our local, county and state medical personnel work together to provide the best care possible for a critically injured patient and how the state trauma system is supposed to work.
