On December 20th, 2021 at 1204 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company along with the mutual aid box assignment was dispatched to a reported house fire in the unit block of Mallard Drive in the Gander Woods development. Engines 84-2, 84-4, 84-6 and Rescue 84 made the response. Upon arrival crews were faced with the porch of the residence on fire with fire extending into the home. The crew of Engine 84-2 was able to knock down all the visible fire in the area of the porch and then conducted an interior fire attack to keep the fire from gaining a foothold in the main portion of the residence. Primary and Secondary searches were conducted by the crew of Tower 70 and proved to be negative. The crew of Engine/Tanker 73-3 was assigned to the second floor of the residence for fire attack and overhaul. The crew of Engine/Tanker 76-2 was assigned as the RIT during the fire attack. Companies assisting on the scene today were Bethany Beach VFC, Dagsboro VFD, Frankford VFC, Selbyville EMS and the Sussex County Paramedics. Companies providing station coverage during the fire were Roxana VFC, Rehoboth Beach VFC and Millsboro VFC. Units operated for just over two hours. Assistant Chief Mike Melson had command of the incident. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. Photos used with permission.
